North Coast Medical Ltd is a company set up in 2019 to run clinical trials from Newquay Health Centre. The team is well set up with a dedicated modern purpose built research facility including lockable storage, fridge, freezer all equipped with temperature monitoring. The research facility is secure as is our IT system access. We have onsite archiving.
We operate to CCRG standard SOPs for all areas of clinical research.
The team is led by Principal Investigator Dr Nick Jacobsen who has been research active since 2014 and is dual trained in both medical research and general medical practice. The team also has Dr Rutesh Patel (Sub-Investigator), Keren Northcott (Lead Research Nurse and Study Co-ordinator), Rachel Smith (Research Nurse), and we have further nurse support from our GCP accredited nurses.
Dr Jacobsen has developed a strong relationship with the NIHR CRN: South West Peninsula and engaged in a number of clinical trials over the last five years from various sources, including subject areas as follows - endocrinology, rheumatology, gastrointestinal medicine, cardiovascular and respiratory medicine, mental health, and immunology. We ran a trial recently as a rescue site and achieved the highest recruitment level in the UK. This year we won a CRN Research Culture award acknowledging work done to introduce and embed clinical research in Primary Care. Previously
Dr Jacobsen has been highly commended in two awards from the CRN and Royal College of GPs for his contribution to clinical research.
